AutoZone, with over 6000 locations, is renowned for its automotive parts, accessories, and advice.

But do they make or copy keys?

AutoZone does provide key copying services for automotive vehicles such as Toyota, Ford, Honda, Dodge, GMC, Mercedes, Kia, and others. These services include automotive key blanks, key duplication, transponder keys, and key fobs.

To learn more about the types of key services AutoZone provides and their pricing, keep on reading!

Does AutoZone Make Keys for Cars?

AutoZone specializes in making keys for nearly any make or model and is truly your one-stop-shop for all your car key needs. If your vehicle is older than 20 years old, you can get regular ignition key blanks cut for your car and will cost you between $2.50 and $6.00.

If you have a newer vehicle that uses a transponder key (identified by a black plastic key-head), AutoZone can hook you up with a key and program it for your car at a fraction of the cost of a dealership.

AutoZone Transponder Keys

AutoZone makes and programs transponder keys with no appointment necessary and at a fraction of what you will pay at a dealership, typically between $20 to $90. They can make transponder keys for a wide variety of vehicles, including Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Honda, Mercedes, GMC, and others.

Transponder keys (also known as chipped keys) are special keys that embed an RFID chip in them. These chips have a unique code associated with them that a receiver in the car's ignition reads. If the code doesn't match the receiver's code, then the engine will not start when the key is turned.

This adds an additional layer of security and ensures that only programed keys can start the vehicle.

You can typically identify these keys from their black plastic head, and it's estimated that 70% of vehicles on the road today use a transponder key, and if you own a car made in the 2000s, you very likely have one too.

When using a dealership, cutting and programming transponder keys can get quite pricey—sometimes hundreds of dollars per key.

However, AutoZone truly is a cheaper blessing when it comes to transponder keys, and you can typically get one made for under $100.

Does AutoZone Sell Key Fobs?

AutoZone provides a variety of key fobs that work for most vehicle makes, and they will help you match and program your fob to your car. Key fobs can range from $20 to $400 depending on the vehicle and the type of fob you buy.

A key fob (also called a remote key) is a tiny plastic remote control that can control the locks, alarm system, and sometimes a vehicle's ignition.

They use an RFID chip and an antenna that communicates with an RFID reader device within your vehicle. If the code being broadcasted from your key fob matches what the reader device is programmed to accept, the fob can control specific aspects of your car—the lock being the most common.

Key fobs can easily be lost or broken, but replacing them is a reasonably cheap and simple task.

Does AutoZone Make Keys For Motorcycles?

AutoZone does not sell or duplicate motorcycle keys in their physical stores. However, they sell motorcycle keys for Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki on their online store for $2.49, which you will need to take to a motorcycle retailer or locksmith to cut.

Does AutoZone Make House Keys?

AutoZone is primarily an automotive store, but do they make house keys?

Most AutoZone stores, and other auto part stores, do not make or cut house or padlock keys and only offer vehicle key duplication, transponder keys, and fobs.

However, they offer house key blanks (such as Schlage blanks) on their website for around $10, and there have been reports by some AutoZone employees that they offer to cut house keys.

So you may need to call your local Autozone to see if they offer this service. If they don't, consider checking out Home Depot or my complete list of places to make keys.

Can Autozone Make ATV Keys?

AutoZone does not make keys for ATVs. However, you can buy replacement ignitions that will come with a new but different key.

If you want to make an ATV key, consider dropping by a locksmith, which will cost you around $10 to duplicate your key.

Can Autozone Make RV Keys?

AutoZone does not carry or make keys for RVs. If you need a copy of an RV key, you'll need to pay a visit to your local locksmith, car dealership, or hardware store.

Does Autozone Make Mailbox Keys?

AutoZone does not sell or make mailbox keys or any single-sided pin tumbler lock key—such as house or padlocks keys.

Additionally, most mailbox keys are "Do Not Duplicate" keys, and most stores and locksmiths will not copy these types of keys. If you want to make a copy of a mailbox key, you'll need to visit the post office and request one, which typically costs $20.
