- Lock quality can affect the pickability of a lock in a significant way. Lock picking takes advantage of the slop in the lock (the gap between pieces). While it’s impossible to manufacture a lock without these imperfections (hence why every lock can be picked), higher-quality manufacturing can produce components with tighter tolerances, which make them harder to pick but more expensive.
